The Deans of ECUSA Seminaries

Dear Friends,

"Traditions of Anglican Spirituality"
Course for Anglican/Episcopal Seminarians, August 2001

You will recall hearing about this Course from me as long ago as December 1999 at your Council meeting, and from time to time since then.

I am very happy to tell you that plans are going very well, and so far we have 25 students enrolled. It is particularly encouraging that they come from 15 countries in the Anglican Communion, (including 6 from ECUSA) as our principal purpose has always been to enable Anglicans to speak to each other, and learn from each other, from a variety of contrasting cultures.

A few places still remain, and I write now to tell you that the Episcopal Evangelical Education Society has made us a substantial grant which enables us to offer a £500 subsidy to each participating student from ECUSA. The Room and Board for the 3-week Course is £840, plus Tuition Fee £300, total £1,140. Thanks to the generosity of EEES that total charge is now reduced to £640.

In the light of this reduction there may be students in your Seminary who would like to come. I would be very grateful if you could let this be known in the student community, and ask anyone interested to contact me.

Details of the Course can be found on the Website of the Rev Professor Michael Battle, Duke Divinity School, who is leading the Course with the assistance of theologians from India, South Africa and England, http://www.duke.edu/~mbattle/Canterbury_Syllabus.html

I wish you well at the outset of your long summer, and send you warm greetings from Canterbury in the fellowship of the Gospel.

Yours sincerely,

Roger
